Scott Davis

How long have you been playing golf

38 years. I started playing golf when I was 12 but that’s old these days. A lot of the kids I teach start around 7 years old and are already very golf savvy.

How long have you been coaching

23 years.

What do you love most about Moore Park Golf

Mainly the location and atmosphere, but Moore Park Golf really does have it all - from social golfers, private club golfers, tourists, corporates, school children, sporting stars and celebrities. There is a real mix and everyone is welcome.

What is your favourite hole and why

The 18th hole is a very demanding finishing hole. Ideally you need a strong left to right tee shot up the left side of the fairway to set up a clear shot to the green. Even then though, if you hit a strong tee shot up the middle you will be blocked out by the trees. The green is also guarded by bunkers to the right and the left side slopes away into a little valley. So if you miss, it makes a tough up and down. The green is a huge green with lots of swales in it. So to make a par on 18 you need to make some quality shots!

How would you best describe your coaching style

I listen to my student’s. We then develop a plan based on their goals. I focus on the importance of posture, balance and motion as well as having a functional golf grip. However, out on the golf course is where I have the most impact.  There is a huge difference between the driving range and the golf course and I believe golf should be learnt on the field of play.

Do you have a particular star pupil

I have a few ;)

What is the best piece of advice you would give someone wanting to play golf

Golf is a game that requires patience, focus and thinking so develop a plan and build on improving step by step.

Too often I see ambitious golfers just starting out, they come down for a 30 minute lesson and leave frustrated because they “just can’t quite get it”. It takes time and practice so relax and enjoy the journey and you will get a lot more out of your golf.

What is the best piece of advice you would give someone wanting to follow in your footsteps and become a Pro

1 Know what you want

2 Know why you want it

3 Love it

4 Embrace failure

5 Ignore the critics, do the work.
