Meet Mal - Golf Course Superintendent

We’re excited to continue our “Meet the Team” series which will introduce you to key members of the Moore Park Golf team.

We’d like to introduce you to Mal, our Golf Course Superintendent

One of our longest serving team members, Mal has been working at Moore Park Golf for over 30 years. He and his team are out on the course in the early hours of every morning, ensuring it’s in tip top condition.

How long have you been working at MPG? 33 years, 29 of those as Superintendent. Before that, I spent four years as assistant supervisor.

What do you enjoy most about your role working at MPG? The variety! It’s a fast-paced operation where things are changing all the time. You never know what each day will bring and every day is different. It’s much more than cutting grass – there’s always seasonal influences, preparing for events, planning for what’s going to happen with the greens and tees, course renovations

What do you like to do on the weekends when you’re not working? I’ve got a couple of kids and I love getting involved with their sport. Now that they’re getting a little bit older, it gives me a bit of time back to myself so I like surfing and fishing. We recently bought a new four-wheel drive so we like to go driving and camping.

What is a random fact about you that not many people would know? I play the drums. Not in a band but I love playing the drums to keep the mind stimulated and something to do. I’d been wanting to try for years but you’ll never see me playing in public.
